Smarten Up, Please
I was at my local Remembrance Sunday event on the 9th, and I have to say, for such a formal and sombre event, many people were dressed awfully.
The worst offender, in my opinion, was a woman wearing just a crop top and leggings. All the more inappropriate considering the rain that day.
Now, I'm not just picking on the women here; there were many men in crappy t-shirts with vests, one advertising some political stance or other and plenty more odd choices from both sexes.
Obviously, I'm not suggesting everyone break out the top hat and tails for such an event, but a bit more decorum is called for. Unfortunately, the same can be said for funerals, men with no ties, etc. (exceptions when families ask otherwise).
Sadly, it seems to be the same for normal day-to-day wear. People wearing ill-fitting clothes, dirty items and otherwise unsightly things.
Again, I'm not suggesting three-piece suits and dresses become the norm, but just something less scruffy.
Overall, I think the dumbing down of standards in clothing over the years reflects the same in society. Gone are the days of police in tunics, and gone are the days of higher police standards, for example.
What a terrible shame!
*For fairness's sake, I'm not suggesting I'm innocent of all clothing offences; I do try my best, though.
