New Just In!
Is it me, or are the priorities of our new media somewhat warped?
I was listening to heart radio (no judgment, please). Their headline pieces were about Davina Mcall being grateful for messages of support following major surgery, Kier Starmer answering that it would be interesting to watch Love Actually with his family at Christmas, and some other stuff.
Given they only have a brief period to report on the news are these, and I mean no ill will to Davina, are either of those things that important?
I'd say no.
It's not just broadcasters though, newspapers do it too. I try to read most papers and the funeral of Liam Payne was plastered all over them. Especially I found the Mail Online, which had what looked like dozens of separate articles. There's only so much you can say about a funeral, even one of a celebrity.
Currently, there is an escalating war in Ukraine, a new questionable President on the way in the US, and a report about poverty in the UK. Surely these should be more central in our news?
I wonder how we're at the point. Is it that our interest in serious news is this low, or are we trying to bury our heads in the sand about it? Perhaps, maybe, the media itself is trying to distract us from all these things and have their own vested interests at play.
More likely, it may be a mix of these things. Either way, it's a little sad that the realm of seriousness in news has taken something of a back seat.
