The Migration Problem
First, I need to say, I think, that I do not condone in any way any form of violent disorder or riotous behaviour currently going on in certain parts of the country,
The individuals who have been acting in such a manner in places like Essex are deplorable, and I hope the full force of the law is brought to bear on those responsible.
That out of the way, let's get started.
I can see why some people are so aggravated at migrants being housed in hotels, especially when alleged to be former 4-star ones.
The common theme seems to be, why can't people like former service personnel, who are struggling to find accommodation or are homeless, be treated in the same fashion?
As of March 2024, there are roughly 1.33 million people on council/social housing waiting lists. I'd imagine that many of them could potentially be housed at these places, too. Hopefully, alongside a large social housing building project.
New York City has what I'd consider a fair, reasonable solution. Migrant families are housed in hotels etc, whereas single men are put up in some kind of tent cities.
This kind of compromise situation would allow room to be made available for anyone homeless and any waiting list households, while still meeting our duty of care to anyone in the UK.
Making these places would require some investment, which I'm sure a lot would still object to, whatever you think, though, the migrant situation isn't going to get any better soon, so something needs to be done.
Oh, and for those saying just send them back to the country they are from. I think you overlook the fact that those countries need to agree to take them back, along with many other logistical issues.
